During flowering, more than eight million bees in hives are brought into the orchard to pollinate the flowers.
Our pollination partners, Taylor Pass Honey Co, provide bee hives to enable natural, biological pollination.
Overlooking Tarras Cherry Corp’s orchard is the picturesque St Bathans Range.
Netting creates an optimal microclimate within the orchard, to produce premium cherries.
Pruning cherry trees is an integral part of maintaining the Tarras orchard throughout the year.

Only the best will do

All cherries are hand-picked when fully ripe and sweet. Our trained pickers look for ripeness indicators and pick fruit for consistency.

Technology supports workers

RFID technology developed by Dataphyll Grow ensures pickers are paid by kilogram of cherries picked, rewarding performance.

Exciting, delicious cherries

Cherry varieties growing at Tarras, range from bright red to deep burgundy in colour with each having individual eating characteristics.

The orchard, planted in 2018, harvested its first crop in December 2020. Positioned higher than many other orchards in the Cromwell Basin, it is less prone to damaging frosts.
